“The Army’s Greatest Invention!” The P-38 Can Opener is the classic folding military can opener developed during WWII and used through the Vietnam War. Besides opening ration tins, this handy device was used as a fingernail cleaner, letter/box opener, screwdriver, bottle opener, and toothpick. It’s clearly one of the handiest devices ever created! Soldiers often wore these around their necks with their dog tags and many veterans still carry one today.
